I had two fraudulent Starbucks reload charges on my Amex. Both were for $20.00 and on January 2, 2015 4 minutes apart. I am enrolled in transaction alerts and notified my credit card co. and Starbucks immediately. Amex said that since it was pending, they would have to wait to have them post. Starbucks gave me a case number and said they would provide my information to their fraud dept. unfortunately my Amex representative was not too bright, and the charges were left on my credit card. I had to call Amex again and dispute the charges and have since received a new card. I have never been to Starbucks and never bought any of their cards. I do shop at Amazon. I'm wondering where the breach is. This seems like a usual occurance and Starbucks doesn't seem to be putting more strict measures in place. They should ask for more personal information to make sure this doesn't keep occurring.

I had two authorizations for $50 today with the same Starbucks card reload as everyone else in this thread. I also had one credit for $50. In looking back to previous month's statement, I had one other $50 charge. I don't own a Starbucks card. I was alerted to this fraudulent activity through a stranger who DID have a Starbucks account, and was notified by e-mail that his card had been reloaded. This was a red flag for him because he knew he didn't make the purchase. When he called Starbucks, my Name and Street Add was paired with his e-mail address and Starbucks account #. The hacker had already transferred the funds to another account. He found my cell phone number through a web search (I'm a certified yoga instructor) and called me to tell me the situation. My bank had no idea these were fraudulent and the charges would have continued. I am a frequent Amazon shopper and can likely assume the breach happened there. This has been going on for years! It's got to stop!

I do not have a payment card linked to Starbucks. I do not reload my Starbucks card online. Even after getting a new debit card, I get the same attempts to "reload" Starbucks' cards on the NEW debit card. Someone needs to get to the bottom of this and STOP IT!!!!!!!!!!! If it weren't for my text alert on my debit card, I would be out hundreds of dollars. It's just such an annoyance to have to get a new debit card every couple of months. I do shop online at Amazon, which has been mentioned often as a possible source. Someone find the root of this scam, PLEASE!!!!!

Just noticed 5 charges of $25 each in the past 4 days on my AmEx card, so now the card is cancelled. I don't go to Starbucks, maybe once or twice a year, so I don't know how the thief got my card number. I do use it on most transactions and some websites, so who knows. It's a hassle to have to get a new card, but no other option I guess. I never heard of Starbucks Reload before! Sorry to see it's a common scam.

I don't show anything on Paypal and don't have a Starbucks card. But, three months ago had one $50 charge. I have text alert on my card so was notified immediately and cancelled my card, but they then tried 14 more times! Now, 3 months later, they tried again at Starbucks Reload and were denied. Then 2 hours later tried at ATT Web Hosting. Again denied. My bank won't do an investigation. They said I should report it to local law enforcement for investigation and they will cooperate with them if contacted. This is a really large scam! I had no idea. Does anyone have any media contacts that might like to take this on?

I just discovered, seven months later (because I don't use the card) that this STARBUCKS RELOAD thing drained $400 from my account over the course of four days July 2014. Even though I never use the card nor purchase $100 worth of anything from Starbucks, it wasn't flagged. Now, seven months later, my bank says they cannot dispute it because it is past 60 days. Any advice?

Just had this happen on my Sears Account (that was just opened in December of 2014!). $25 for a Starbucks card reload. Fortunately the customer services lady at Sears seemed to be aware of this and flagged the charge and allowed me to close the account. How'd they get my account info though? I never even activated the sears card.

On December 23rd and 24th my bank statement showed $80.00 debit card transactions with the description Starbucks Card Relo. I called the number that was with the transactions 800-782-7282. They could tell me nothing about how these transactions could get on my account if I did not do them. I googled the phone number and there were hundreds of complaints dating back well over a year about the exact same thing. Some people had as many as 3200.00 in transactions. If Starbucks is not responsible for these transaction it would be to their benefit to get to the bottom of the situation because it makes the Company look very much like an employee has developed a way to steal this money. I find it very difficult to believe it is still going on today. Peggy White 210-259-1108

I just found this today, my Amex card was charged on 1/18, 2015. STARBUCKS RELOAD SVC 800-782-7282 $43.23 CAD ,35.00 USD I only used this card for the pre-authorized payment on Telus, and did not use at anywhere else. I phoned immediately to Amex, and they would refund me.

Jan.19, 2015 I have also just had charges as follows: STARBUCKS CARD RELOAD 800-782-7282 WA ($100 USD STARBUCKS CARD RELOAD 800-782-7282 ON (2 x $50 USD) I don't have a Starbucks card, and the credit card these were charged to has not been used. However, I did have it listed as a payment method on Amazon.ca. (and nowhere else). My educated guess is this is an Amazon security breach - most likely a 'disgruntled employee' scenario.

$50 fraudulently charged to my debit card/checking account for a "Starbucks card reload." Fortunately it just happened yesterday and is still processing, so customer service at Bank of America was able to cancel it before it even finished processing. All future Starbucks transactions will be blocked. It pays to check your credit card and bank transactions frequently to catch these thing ASAP!

This has happened to me with my Discover Card now four times in the space of 2 months. $100 four times was charged to reload a Starbucks card (that I never owned). Discover has acted swiftly and issued me a new card and I won't be charged for these amounts. Why can't this fraud be stopped? It apparently is widespread, and thieves are getting away with $$$$$$$ !

November 10 and 18, 2014, two charges of $50 on my credit card, "STARBUCKS CARD RELOAD 800-782-7282, WA 981340000 US". I don't even own a Starbucks card and haven't been at Starbucks in weeks. I called the number and got tired of waiting after 15 minutes on their automatic system, so I called my credit card and cancelled the card.

Two unauthorized $100 reloads to Starbucks card from my VISA. My bank was diligent enough to call me, confirm, investigate, block my card and re-send a new one. My card is kept locked at home, rarely used for ad hoc purchases, and only for monthly automatic cell phone bill payments. What I can't figure out is how so many other people, who do on-line purchases ALL the time, never seem to have any trouble.

Starbucks Card Reload 800-782-7282 Wa showed up on my credit card 4 times at $50 each. the latest one was credited back. I called the number and they told me they couldn't do anything because it was a "reload". So I had to get a different card again. I emailed the BBB... no response. Starbucks must know what is going on but they continue with this. No Starbucks coffee in my future. .

I have been charged twice for a starbucks reload. The first time 09/14/2014, for $100, I canceled my debit card, had Starbucks cancel my reward card with them. I just recently went to check my mail, we got a bill from Sears saying our Sears CC was used in, $100 STARBUCKS CARD RELOAD 800-782-7282 WA. Its 2014, let alone in August of 2014, and the charge happened on July 28th 2014. This is absurd, the card that was charged was never used on any online purchases and the last time we used the card was in stores while paying our bill for it.

Just looked at our business account online and noticed that 8 separate reloads in the amount of $50 and one reload for $100 were applied to our account on July 28th! We didn't incur these charges! I called the 800# listed on our report and I got a case number, but I guess it's all up to our bank at this point. I am also very curious as to where someone got my information....we hardly ever use this card!

Just got one for $100. Had one on another card 2 months ago for $100 and one about 6 month ago with a third card. Mothered separate cards, three separate banks. Looks like this has been an issue for at least a few years. I love my coffee but perhaps it is time for Starbucks to cut off the online reload. It is OBVIOUSLY a problem.

Pending withdraw from starbucks for the amount of $75. I'm not sure where the person who used my card got the info but I think they got it from he recent security breach from paypal. I already contacted my bank and they canceled my card, I hope they refund my money. Just to be safe, make sure to change your credit card number if you have a paypal account.

Since these are unauthorized charges, your bank HAS to allow you to file a dispute according to Regulation E. I guarantee you your bank has seen multiple disputes for $100 charges from Starbucks Card Reload. I work in the debit card dispute department of a bank and we've seen these for months now. Also, since this would be an unauthorized dispute, the bank also needs to issue provisional credit within 10 days of you filing the dispute, as long as you send the claim form documents they provide back to them within those 10 days. At my bank, we issue provisional credit immediately for unauthorized disputes, regardless of whether we've received their paperwork yet or not. Anyone reading this, please keep in mind that the provisional credit rule applies ONLY to unauthorized charges. Merchant disputes are a different story and provisional credit isn't required. Most banks don't issue provisional credit at all for merchant disputes. But these are clearly unauthorized charges, so you need to be given provisional credit pending the outcome of the dispute. Call you bank back right away and demand that they file an unauthorized dispute. Hope this helps.

I don't think Starbucks is at fault. They are just a conduit for thieves. The only way Starbucks could stop it is to completely stop issuing their cards, and that wouldn't make good business sense, since its a service that makes them money. If they did stop issuing their cards, the thieves would just find another way to drain money from bank accounts. It has happened to me before via the same process (debit from checking account) with different merchants. The problem is security for our financial data -- checking account #s, credit card #s, etc. Anytime we use these cards online, in stores, at ATMs, at gas stations, we are vulnerable to such fraud. We just have to stay vigilant, and put in place as many security measures as we can, unfortunately.
